To beat the scorching heat and to protect yourself from the loo, we have 7 healthy drinks to quench your thirst and beat the heat this summer!
DRINKS TO BEAT THE HEAT THIS SUMMER!
1-WATERMELON SLUSH
When we think about summers, Watermelon automatically pops into our mind. It is the best solution as it is mostly water-about 90%. In addition, each bite of it is full of Vitamins and Minerals. It has a high level of Vitamin C and A. It is also high in Antioxidants and Amino Acids.
RECIPE OF WATERMELON SLUSH
Cut Watermelon into pieces and add some mint leaves. Use a hand blender, and slowly blend them together. You may also add some crushed ice. Avoid adding any extra sugar.
2-LEMON WATER (NIMBU PANI)
The most simple and easy to make-Nimbu Pani. You can carry the drink where ever you are and even while travelling. In addition to keeping your skin lively and hydrated, Lemon water is a rich source of Vitamin C. It also helps with bloating, cramps, burping and heartburn.
RECIPE OF LEMON WATER
There are just two ingredients – Water and Melon. You can simply squeeze a lemon in your water bottle. Once your bottle is half, again add water to it (You can add water in the bottle 2-3 times).It will also work as the best detox source for your body.
3-BUTTERMILK (CHAAS)
Chaas or the Buttermilk the most common drink Indians consume after their meals. It not only aids the process of digestion but is a great source to fight dehydration. If you are on a diet, you can’t miss this magic drink. It has the power to wash down the fats and extra oil that often remains around the stomach and food pine.
RECIPE OF BUTTERMILK
In a grinder add pepper, cumin seeds(jeera), curry leaves (curry patta) and coriander leaves. Mix them well. Finally, add curd (half cup) and cold water (1glass) to it. You may also add salt as per your taste.
4-ICED GREEN TEA
Generally, we take hot green tea and often ignore it during summers. But wait! Why ignore your favourite weight loss partner when you can still have all the benefits. We all are aware that green tea is full of antioxidants, is good for your heart and fights against cancer.
Recipe of Iced Green Tea
Take a cup of boiling water an add a spoon of green tea. Cover it for 3-4 minutes. Now, drain the leaves and keep the water in the fridge for about an hour (You can keep it for more time if you prefer chilled or add crushed ice). Finally, add a few drops of lemon and honey and it is good to go. Your delicious and healthy iced green tea is ready.
5-COCONUT WATER
One of my top favourite drink to have during the burning weather conditions. Coconut water is low in sugar content but a high concentration of minerals. It helps you with improving your metabolism, boots immunity and is perfect for your skin and hair.
Note: Consume the fresh coconut, and avoid canned coconut juice.
6-SUGARCANE JUICE
Sugarcane juice is widely available, and a single glass has the potential to fix your depleting levels of energy. It helps in building plasma and body fluids which helps in fighting fatigue during summers. In addition, Sugarcane juice has alkaline properties as it has a high percentage of calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium. This helps in preventing diseases like cancer as it is difficult for them to grow in an alkaline environment.
Note: While having sugarcane juice, make sure that the juice is prepared in front of your eyes. Never take the juice which is already in the jar. Otherwise, the juice can cause you gas. Also, always ask the person to add ginger to sugarcane juice to get the maximum benefit.
7-ROASTED GRAM FLOUR WATER (SATTU WATER)
Sattu-The desi summer cooler from Bihar! Not so popular among the cities, Sattu has always curbed the thirst of people living in rural areas. It is a great drink to quench the thirst and prevents the body from overheating. It is a great source of protein and fibre. In fact, 100 grams of sattu contains almost 20% of the protein. It also keeps your blood sugar level in control.
Recipe to make Sattu Water
Add Chana sattu (One-fourth cup), Chilled water (4 cups), Lemon juice(2 teaspoons), Roasted Cumin powder (Half teaspoon) , Mint leaves (2 teaspoons-chopped), Black salt ( To taste),Green chilli (1-chopped) and Raw Mango(2 teaspoons-grated) in a jug and mix well. Garnish with mint leaves and your sattu drink is ready.
