Delhi University has made some drastic changes in the admission process due to the COVID 19 pandemic. With the objective of making the process safe and easy for students, the entire process will be online. There are some changes & rules every student should understand before applying. This article will take you through the admission process in Delhi University 2020, and will discuss the changes made this year you should understand properly.

Delhi University Admission Process 2020

The Delhi University Admission process is spread via three channels – Cut Off, Entrance Exams & Sports/ ECA Quota. We will discuss all the three in detail one by one. But, before moving to the channels, let me share some important points about the application form.

STEP 1: First you are required to fill the form at the DU official site (Online Only). Be very careful while filling in the details, especially your name and gender. Your form can be rejected if your name is not spelt correctly. Also, if you are a female student, you might miss on the opportunities that girls get if your gender is wrong.

STEP 2: Once you have filled your details, you need to separately select for any entrance based course you wish to apply.

1: Admission by Cut Off

The first way students can get through Delhi University is by qualifying for the cut off list released. There are some points which are necessary to understand the Cut-Off List and Rules.

  • Students are selected on the Best of 4 or Best of 3 Often students are confused regarding the concept of calculating the final percentage. The percentage of best of 4 subjects for admission is considered for courses of Faculties of Arts, Commerce, Mathematical Sciences, Music, Social Sciences, Applied Social Sciences & Humanities. On the other hand, the best of 3 subjects are taken under the faculties of Sciences and Applied Sciences.
  • Reduction of Marks on Change of Stream: Delhi University is not flexible with students changing their streams & hence there could be a percentage deduction (2.5-5%). For Example, if a student from Science stream applies for a Humanities Program, they will face a cut in the percentage.
  • Inclusion of Languages & Elective Subjects: Delhi University has released a list of Elective subjects and some Indian & Foreign Languages which students can include in their merit list. Inclusion of any subject other than the list (Check List A & B) will again lead to deduction of percentage 1-2%.

  • Apply As Soon As The Cut Off Is Released: Now, this step is very crucial. As soon as the university releases the cut-off list & you match the percentage, apply immediately! If you miss a cut-off, you will not be allowed to take admission in the next cut-off list.

2- ENTRANCE BASED EXAMS

The second most popular channel to take admission in the elusive Delhi University is by applying in the entrance exams. The admissions are based on the marks secured in the entrance test and some percentage of class 12th marks are also given importance. Which applies that the better the stage you have played at, more are your chances of getting through.
