In 2016, Apple revealed that an average user unlocks their phone 80 times a day, making it every 18 minutes. If you will remove your sleeping hours, it will be more frequent! This little monster has become the utmost importance in our life and receives undivided attention. Where ever we go, whatever we do, it will have all the information! Now the question comes, to what extent are we addicted? Can we reduce it?
This article will first make you familiar with few signs of cell phone addiction followed by methods to curb it.
Sign 1: I wake up and pay my greetings to my cell phone!
The first thing people with cell phone addiction do after getting up is to check their phone, and if they can’t find it, they generally experience anxiety.
Sign 2: My cell phone is my 24*7 companion!
Chatting, calls, applications, movies, etc., these people will be around their phone doing one or another activity. Even if their phone is connected to a charger, they will make sure that it is near them. Staying away from the phone for more than 10 minutes is a task.
Sign 3: If someone is using my phone, I always keep a tap on my watch!
Generally, these people don’t like to share their phones with others, even if they have to share, they will stay close to the person and will make sure the call ends soon.
Sign 4: I am seen texting even in social gatherings!
These people will attend all the social gatherings, family events, reunions & parties, but will always be seen texting simultaneously. Others have to constantly request them to keep their phone aside. Even in daily life, they like to text more than to talk in person.
Sign 5: Sometimes I get the feeling that my phone is vibrating even when it is not!
That’s called Phantom Vibrations, and are extremely common among the millennials. They experience it more frequently when they are expecting a message from someone, or when the phone is inactive for some time.
Sign 6: I constantly check my social media and scroll unnecessary for hours!
Checking the phones without any purpose for hours like zombies is an indication that you can’t moderate your usage of cell phone. People make excuses that they have nothing better to do, but in reality, there are thousands better way to utilize time.
Sign 7: It is taking a toll on my relationship!
Everyone is busy with work, and the little time we get is devoted to our new best friend – Cell Phone. The other person gets irritated and this might hamper your relationship. According to a study, if you eat while using your cell phone, you will have a weak bond with friends and family.
Beware! Either use the technology wisely, else technology will use you. Moderate the time you spend on a phone, make the best use of your free time and keep a tap on the number of hours you are using social media. Go out for a walk, grab some snacks and meet your friends or go read some books! The best way to reduce the addiction is by keeping it away from you – especially if you are around people!
