She: Now that I am promoted, it will be hard for me to give you time!
He: We will manage!
Juggling between relationship & career? Do you think what she said is true? Read on.
Relationship & Career are the two most important part of our life, while one fulfils our basic necessities, the other keeps us emotionally strong and healthy. If one of the two is affected, it has a toll on our peace of mind. According to research people in successful relationships not only make more money, but they also live a longer, healthier life. Now, the questions come – How?
1-Share your goals and plans:
Always keep the other person in the loop and share all your plans with them. It could be a small thing like your meeting location to the big projects you are part of. Your partner will feel a part of your life and would not feel disconnected from your tough busy times.
2-Take out time for them
Relationships only work with the constant effort from both sides. Make it a point to talk to your partner daily on phone for at least 30 mins daily. Even if you don’t get time, talking while you are in cab or metro is a good idea. You can also drop a text once in a while and let them know how much they mean to you. This works like wonder.
3-Prioritize your work
There are thousands of tasks which require your attention, but not immediately. You should understand the importance of each task and make a list.
- Important and urgent
- Important but not urgent
- Urgent but not important
- Not important and not urgent
Complete your Urgent and Important task, and rest can wait 😊
4-Do one thing at one time
When you are working, give your 100% to your work, don’t let anything distract you. Make your day as productive as it can be. Once you are with your partner, don’t let your work affect your quality time. An entire day should be kept just for two of you.
5-Help each other with difficult tasks & Perform tasks together
You can help your partner with the tasks you are good at and make their day easy. For example: If you are good with presentations, creating a presentation for them will not only give you some time together, but it will help you in creating a better bond.
According to research, couples who perform tasks together are happier and have a healthy relationship. You can go for shopping, clean your home, prepare meals, buy groceries, and can make a do-to-list for every month.
6-Never Assume – Say it loud!
Once we are dating someone for quite some time, we start assuming that they will understand without saying anything. If you feel the other person is not giving you enough time, or that they are not acting in a manner they should, say it loud and communicate.
7-Quit – Really?
You are the best judge of what you want in life. If your work life is affecting your love life, try talking to your partner about it before it is too late. Take out a mid-way, else you will affect your relationship. On the other hand, if your partner is not understanding of your career aspirations and is constantly de-motivating you, they might not be the right one for you. The right partner will never discourage you and will be your support.
Maintaining the balance is the key. Have any suggestions to add? Do mention in the comment section.
